pregnant woman, who was arrested by the
police in Enugu, after pouring hot water on a
neighbour, who allegedly peeped on her while she
was having her bath, has said the devil pushed
her into taking the drastic action.
The woman, Mrs. Mercy Chintua, who resides
with her husband at Akwuke, Awkunanaw in Enugu
State, was arrested after she poured hot water on
the victim, one Emmanuel Anyebe, on February
23.
It was gathered that Anyebe was about to take his
own bath when Chintua splashed the hot water on
him.
The victim sustained severe injuries as a result of
the incident and is currently receiving treatment in
hospital.
In her account to the police, Chintua said she
took the action in retaliation after Anyebe saw her
unclothedness after peeping on her in the
bathroom.
According to her, earlier on that fateful day, as
she was taking her bath, Anyebe spied on her
while trying to gain access to the bathroom, and
in the process, saw her unclothedness.
Chintua, who said she was angered at the
invasion of her privacy, thereafter grabbed a pot
of already boiled hot water and poured the
contents on Anyebe.
Anyebe reportedly lost consciousness as a result
of the excruciating pain, and was rushed to a
nearly hospital for treatment.
But Anyebe has denied peeping on the woman.
According to him, he wanted to enter the
bathroom to take his bath, only to be stopped by
Chintua, who insisted on taking her bath first.
Anyebe said he simply left after Chintua quickly
went into the bathroom to take her bath before he
could do same.
He added that he went to the woman's husband
to complain about the development, after which he
proceeded to go back to the bathroom to have his
bath, when Chintua had finished taking her bath.
It was while Anyebe was taking his bath that
Chintua poured the hot water on him.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State
Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, who disclosed
the development in a statement, said Chintua has
blamed her action on the devil, even as she is
helping the police in their investigations.
